Nintendo Gives the Louvre a Power Up!
Two, possibly unexpected partners, have teamed up to create quite a different approach to traditional audio guides. Nintendo is supplying the Paris museum, the Louvre, with 5,000 of the latest-generation consoles, which include the 3D effects without the need of the special glasses. The consoles will allow visitors to locate themselves in the museum and choose themed itineraries, including special ones for children, as well as be able to listen to hundreds of recorded commentary in several different languages!
Nintendo developed the content for the consoles, with the Louvre remaining in editorial control. The museum hopes this scheme will help appeal to people who are used to playing on the consoles at home, and are happier using touch screens rather than conventional audio guides.
